ENERGY STAR

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN & LIGHT, a segment of Architectural Design & Cabinet is a partner with the department of energy and the ENERGY STAR® campaign. This is only one small part of our commitment to the future.

We firmly believe that we need to improve the way we build. Home improvements are shortsighted and superficial if they fail to address and introduce a home to architectural principles, new and old.

Like:

  • a homes orientation to the sun (daylight harvesting or daylighting)
  • connection to community
  • connection to environment
  • energy management,
  • water conservation
  • air quality, and
  • efficient and safe building materials and processes.

Homes of the past generation have taken resources from the community and the environment without much thought of where it comes from or the long-term cost or consequences. We have learned a good deal from our follies (lead-based paint, aluminum wiring, and asbestos for example). We yet have much to learn. We have built Homes that have relied on cheap energy and abundant natural resources to compensate for poor design. We now stand at the beginning of a new era.

Today we are experiencing an awakening, a recognition that we can be better stewards of our environment and that turning our back on community comes at a price.

Homes and their residents are an integral part of community. We have a civic and moral responsibility to consider the impact the physical environment we build (big or small) with our treasure (real or borrowed) has on our community and our posterity.

The real challenge and irony is...the cost of good design, design that thoughtfully considers a wide range of needs, and desires, and proposes time-proven as well as innovative solutions, is more expensive up-front and much less expensive over time, but we live in a world that is driven by nothing down today for products that will have diminishing benefits and higher costs tomorrow.

Architectural Design & Cabinet is suggesting that we be wise and thoughtful in our investments. If our homes are improved or purchased as a carnival event, fun and exciting without much care for tomorrow,  they will be gone or of little value tomorrow. We will have empty pockets instead of an estate. Save the carnival thinking for the carnival.

  • Earth  Day Invitation

Our Earth is awesome! It is full of beauty and wonder. It is home to grass and trees, sky and mountains, animals and life. We celebrate Earth Day April 22.

Imagine a birthday party for our planet, a place that gives to us so very much.
What kind of birthday gift can we offer her?

Lydia, a student of Hurricane Intermediate School said “less pollution” as did a young man in Hurricane Elementary. Architectural Design & Light of St. George, thought that was a great idea! And, so did their dad .

We joined the national ENERGY STAR change a light, change the world campaign.
We went to the web site www.energystar.gov and pledged to replace at least one standard light bulb or fixture at home with one that has earned the government’s ENERGY STAR label. These bulbs use 75% less energy than standard bulbs. This simple change, one bulb can prevent 409 pounds of green house gas emission.  It also saves some cash. A 19-watt CFL used in place of a 75-watt incandescent will save about 560 kWh over its lifetime. At .08 cents per kWh, that amounts to a $44 savings.

We thought it would be awesome to ask 500 people to do the same. Together, we can save 141,000 kWh of energy and 204,500 pounds of greenhouse gas.  That’s just one bulb each.

Please go to www.energystar.gov and pledge to change a light. Make a small but significant change for “less pollution”. This EARTH DAY, simply change a bulb.

ENERGY STAR light bulbs can be found at local hardware stores and grocery stores.
Or call ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN & LIGHT, 435-673-4767 we can connect you with an Energy STAR bulb for one five-dollar exchange and answer any Energy Star lighting questions you may have.

Rocky Mountain Power pays its customers to change to ENERGY STAR light fixtures.
Check their web site or call ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN & LIGHT for details.

Recycle your CFL light Bulb with us!.

When you purchase your new Energy Star light bulbs through Architectural Design & Light, we will collect and recycle your old one. CFL,s contain a small amount of mercury and phosphorus that we ought to keep-out of our landfills. Recycle with us for a cleaner environment!
