Kitchen Design Details

Details transform common to remarkable.
Dixie Springs Kitchen
The home owners/builders of this home wanted to create an open warm old world feel. We transformed the 2-D plans to explore in a 3-D computer model and made the suggestion to add some deep barrel arches in the range and refrigerator alcoves of this kitchen. At the framing stages of a home this is a fairly simple and inexpensive detail. A detail that added some mass and infused common 2x framed walls with old world charm. Another detail that made this kitchen remarkable is the island layout. We drew inspiration for the raised island section from a photo the homeowner had collected and the lower seating was given an outward angle. This simple geometry was very economical and transformed the island layout to be unique, interesting and valued. The homeowners pulled the feel together with a warm faux painted finish, and a great island pendant light fixture.

The range hood and built-in oven also was given an old-world feel. We used simple old world bar brackets, a carved acanthus onlay and turned island post details to add old world craftsmanship and charm.

We carried the barrel arch detail into the master bath (look in the mirror) and placed a free standing linen cabinet with a furniture look in the alcove. We also held the vanity from the wall on the left and the tub on the right and added some pedestal cabinet feet to create a furniture old world heirloom look and feel. Simple details with a big impact. Master Bathmaster bath linen alcove We used Milan detailed decorative hardware and Our St. George Traditions custom cabinetry with a heavy bodied Sherwin Williams stain finish that leaves accents in the cabinet door folds like a glaze finish but without the added expense.

The bar details included seedy glass doors, stained interiors, 2 inch wood rope and accent lighting, details that completed this old continent project. Our thanks to the Reed’s for involving us in their home design and cabinetry. Details can and do endure us to place. We were able to bring these ideas together with our Gold 3-D Visual Design Portfolio. DS Bar
