 About Us

Why we began, Our story

Charles Moore a contemporary American architect wrote, “a house should seem the most important place in the world for its inhabitants”.

He also wrote: “The design of a house proceeds from an understanding of the land on which it is to be built, from common agreement about it’s use and it’s place in the community, and from the budgets, needs, and most importantly the dreams of the people who will live in it.”  And, “Making a house “like” something often involves a process of miniaturization; most of the shapes that continue to have meaning in houses come from buildings or natural forms which started out  with cosmic importance, from which they were scaled down, reduced, partially reproduced, or just suggested-miniaturized-so that the archetypal power over the mind of the palace or temple still remains in the little house.”

So, what are your ambitions and dreams and are they reflected in the “place” you call or will call home?
Does your home have charm? What inspires you?  Does it really work well or does it work you well?

Architectural Design & Cabinet is an attempt to have one’s head in the clouds and one’s feet firmly upon the ground.  It is an attempt to use architectural principles to create value in a home, in the relationships between and within rooms and their inhabitants. In America it has been the trend to automate the construction of homes and reduce homebuyers to tract mentality.  Many tract homes look good in 2-D, but we do not “see” them in 3-D detail. It looks good at first, then we move in and discover all kinds of design flaws. We have allowed ourselves to accept a home or home plan and invest in a 30-year mortgage without looking for the details of how the home really functions. We move into a home and then begin making remodel plans or wish lists for next time we build a home. We are always looking for better ways to build. There are many mistakes we can avoid, there is much we can get right the first time. Architectural design desires to put the process of good design, the charm of inspiring and functional design, back into modern home construction. We study plans in 3-D to look at ideas from more than one perspective.

Architectural Design helps people “see” and design the most valued rooms in a home.

The founders of Architectural Cabinetry LLC came from a background of architecture, construction, kitchen and bath design, and practical experience. The clientele that seemed to be attracted to them while working under other tutors was the “non-tract home” variety.  While working for a prestigious cabinet company in St. George, one founder made some custom requests, the owner of the prestigious company said, “we are that custom shop”. Upon the next request he revised his statement to “we are a custom production shop” and finally to you’re a great designer and you should go start your own shop. The trouble with many shops is they make a cabinet one way. They have tooled to build one way and find it difficult to think, see or build in any other way. Custom cabinetry is a subjective thing. The founder was more interested in a design that inspired the client than the “custom production” quota of one shop. So, he partnered with others interested in similar dreams. Architectural Cabinetry provides fine cabinets from a number of shops. We custom fit the cabinet to the desires of our client and inspirational design. One founder is an architectural dreamer, began school to be an Architect, then changed focus on the relationship between buildings and graduated in Urban Planning. Yet, the love of architecture and its underlying philosophies haunt him. Through school and to the present he has worked in city planning, architectural firms and in the kitchen and bath industry. Architectural Design & Cabinet is a design first firm. Architecture is defined as the organization of space for human use. Cabinetry should not just fill space.  Cabinetry should compliment the dreams, needs and budget of the people who occupy well-designed space.
